Shell bracelets

These two sculptural conus shell bracelets are from Sarawak, North Borneo. Originally, there was tree resin and cowrie shells in the pocket formed by the overlapping shell – this was so damaged it was removed long ago. The tribal people of the Indonesian Archipelago believed that any closed circle provided a protective barrier against hostile forces, making these bracelets much more than mere adornment. The larger has an inside circumference of 9.5” and the smaller 9.25”. Early 20th century.

Indonesian silve cache-sexe
Indian girl

Found this old picture in all things amazing.
Long ago I've heard of silver "cache-sexe" (or is "tanga" a better word for it?) for women that were traditional in a certain Indian coastal region. Sorry for the imprecision! Never seen anything closer to what I imagine this could be than what this little girl is wearing hanging from her belt.I would enormously appreciate any information about this kind of jewelry.

No!

Can't stand that Sesame Street bombardment from Google! How long is it gonna last??? How long are we going to be submitted to this infantilization?

To round up my complaint: I hate the way Blogger has set it's "report abuse" right next to the search window. I cannot stand denounciation, it is against my principles
